Thanks Steve Berry for a Great Week!

Steve-Berry-flyfishingWe’re gonna wrap it up quick today with a special thanks for my buddy Steve Berry, founder of Destinations Fly Fish.  We have had an absolute blast this week chasing the carp, bass, bluegill, cichlids and more in the urban waters of Phoenix, Arizona.  Not to mention Steve helped close the deals on a couple of my speaking engagements this week as well.

steve-berry-fly-fishingSteve and I put in another long day on the water.  We hit some small lakes where in the past we hammered various colors of koi.  This wasn’t the case today however.  Instead the koi are far less prevalent here than in the past and it was more of a common carp fest.

common-carpThe commons here are small in general but still difficult to catch.  I’m happy that my last day was a success.  I have retuned my fly fishing for carp skills and on my last day didn’t miss many fish because of slack or setting to soon.  My end result was a respectable four commons landed and two others hooked and lost.  I should mention, one of the four actually tailed on my fly when it was snagged in concrete and I hooked and landed him.  A carp fishing gift to say the least!

catch-and-releaseThat’s all for a weeks fly fishing in Arizona.  I’m presently on a redeye from Phoenix to Minneapolis.  I’ll catch the first flight to Duluth in the morning.  Next in line, hoping for one dock visit of Lake Superior then next week I do my last speaking tour of the season.  Its in OR and there will be some Billy Chinook bull trout involved!
