A special thanks goes out to Jason and Jo Randall for looking after us so wonderfully this week on the trout waters of Wisconsin. Its was an absolute blast that ended with a morning session on the small stream that literally meanders through their property. Of course, not until after some delicious hot coffee and breakfast!
The weather went from summer to late fall in a matter of hours. Remember when we arrived Tuesday the thermometer rose to 72°? This morning it was 41° and even at noon it was a mere 43°. Animals weren’t moving too fast. That didn’t stop Jason and I from giving it a try early. But it was too early. We managed one fish each between 8 and 9 AM.
Jay and Jo had to cut out shortly after the early fishing session. Granny and I regrouped and hit the tiny river again. We eased our way up some narrow pools separated by beaver dams far downstream from where Jason and I fished earlier. It was casting challenge that Granny wanted none of in the brisk conditions. For me however, I’m still tuned up from the small stream Italy fishing and managed to maneuver using all kinds of casts from backhands to steeples to ones there’s not even a name for.
Fishing was amazing. I continued to force-feed the wild trout my Parachute Hopper. It required the occasional twitch mixed in with the dead drift but the little brownies couldn’t resist. I caught at least twenty then before noon called it a trip.
That’s it for stream trout fishing this week. Granny and I are headed home now. Granny must put a rare Friday in at work. I need to pack up some extremely warm clothes for two days of fishing on Lake Superior with Howie and Neuman. Our target fish this weekend – anything BIG that swims!
And I’ll continue to remind everyone – the Holidays will come fast! I’m playing hard from now till whenever so the sooner you can let me know if you need a Cliff Fly Box or a fish painting, the better. Also, be sure to visit my Online Store to order a gift for the fisher that has everything.
