From Farquhar Atoll to Providence

Yellow-Dog-Flyfishing-Currier-hosted-tripToday was change over day for most of us.  What I mean is six of my nine person Yellow Dog group members left Farquhar with me late this morning and we flew 20 minutes over to Providence Atoll and moved on to the famous Maya’s Dugong ship where tomorrow we’ll start another week of fishing.  It was a marvelous trip to Farquhar and a special thanks goes out to the staff and guides of Alphonse fishing.  Conditions were a challenge but everyone took it on and we caught some outstanding fish.

Providence-AtollThose that continued on with me are Dave Boyd, Mike Lodge, TJ Rung, Jeff Smith, Fred Stucky and Steve Goble.  We left Steve Rose, Michael Williams and Caio behind for one last day on Farquhar and Thursday they all fly home.  The new anglers joining our group are all good friends and are Rich Roth, David Moeller, Brian Iannacchione, Steve Fitzsimon and Therese Rappazini.

Dogtooth-tunaWe don’t fly fish with the guides on the changeover day but rather settle into our cabins under the deck of the Maya’s Dugong and set up our gear.  While we do that however, the Dugong is moving to our first fishing location.  Whenever the Dugong moves lines go out to troll up some sashimi.  It was slow but Mike Lodge caught about a 50lb dogtooth tuna and TJ landed a wahoo.  We have our delicacy!

Maya's-DugongOnce parked we met our new guide staff and just overall got some rest and had some fun.  We have one veteran and legendary guide and longtime friend of mine that I’ve fished with many times at many places, Tim Babich.  For me it has been a hardcore day of organizing Farquhar photos and making sure I have all my daily notes in order so I can continue to deliver some kick ass blogs.

  1. Oh… I bet Mike’s Dogtooth got you excited to get the dredging gear out… and spend some late nights on the back of the Maya. Haha
