Arrival in Belize

Fish-BelizeI made it to Belize today.  It was smooth sailing once I got through that first hour after getting out of my own bed at 3:15 AM.  Friend Tim Brune, picked me up at the house shortly after 4 and we headed for Idaho Falls to catch a flight to Denver then on to Belize City.  So amazing to leave my house at 4 and be in Belize before 2 PM.

BelizeWhen we arrived in Belize Tim and I were required to provide a negative COVID-19 test which we each passed on Wednesday.  Once that was done we skipped through customs and hopped on a domestic flight to Dangriga where we were picked up and driven to the Belize Permit Club where we’ll fish with my friend Wil Flack for the next week.

Belize is normally a busy tourist destination but there’s nobody here.  Coming into the country today was the easiest ever.  With all the issues in the world of late these fish have had very little pressure.

Its gonna be a good week. . . . however, once again the weather looks dismal!

There could be some delays in blog loading with poor internet but expect day by day reports as internet allows!

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
