Could have slept in till about 7 today but it was so nice I was up at 6. Its summer time in South Africa. After coffee we dressed up and loaded for the bus ride to downtown Dullstroom to walk in the parade for the kickoff of the World Masters Fly Fishing Championships.
These championships are well run. There’s always a touch of the local countries flavor and today the kids of Dullstroom were in their custom dress and each country had one of them to lead them through the streets. The kids are beautiful and happy here. They don’t tap on phones and play video games on a hot sunny day.
The parade was short and ended at a restaurant where the mayor of Dullstroom gave a speech before we ate. Then came the food and some cold Castle Beer. It was a great opening ceremony and we are now relaxing on our porch overlooking the savannah.
Tomorrow is official practice day. We’ll do it but we won’t fish hard. We’ve had some great practice, now it’s time to rest up so when the tourney starts on Tuesday we’ll be on a full tank.
