Jeff Currier's Artwork

At the Denver Sportsmen’s show several years ago I ran into my good friend Jeff Currier. He was working on a watercolor. I knew Jeff was talented; however I did not know that he was a gifted artist. He was applying the final spots on a Snake River Cutthroat that was the best trout painting I had ever seen. I begged him to sell it to me, and he did but with a look on his face like, “I can actually sell my paintings?” Since that day I have commissioned Jeff to paint at least 15 more fish. The paintings are as good as it gets. I could not be more pleased, and they make my fishing room a real work of art.

Jeff Currier's Fly Fishing Adventures
"2008 Fly Fishing in Mongolia"

The photographs on this page are from the movie, Wild Mongolia "The River Time Forgot"

In 2006 Mikey Wier joined Peter Mullett and Genevieve Villimizar of Mongofly travel for an overland exploratory journey through northern Mongolia. On that trip, with the help of their Mongolian Guide Chinbat, they discovered a remote river deep in the heartland of the northern steps. To the best of their knowledge they became the first westerners to fish that spot. It was one of the most beautiful rivers any of them had ever seen and a stronghold for the legendary Taimen. After two of the most spectacular days of fishing any of them had ever enjoyed, they vowed to return.

Two years later Mikey Wier did just that. It took Chinbat two years to secure all the nesesary permissions and permits to float the river. In the mean time, Peter and Mikey worked on getting a fleet of pontoon boats and an oar raft over there. They assembled a team of American Anglers consisting of Brent Dawson, Jeff Currier, his friend Paul Cavanugh, Peter, Gen and Mikey. Chinbat assembled his own team of hearty Mongolians and off they went into the unknown. The group floated over 140 miles of pristine water in 16 days. The landscape, local people, wildlife, fish and river were incredible. The movie clip here is a short sample of some of the footage that will be in a DVD about fly fishing for Taimen in Mongolia due out this fall.

Currier's Personal Journal, September 12 - October 6, 2008 - I arrived home safely from Mongolia a few days ago. It was a magnificent adventure from start to finish. Luckily, I didn't end up face to face with a snow leopard (would've been cool though!) and unfortunately, I didn't catch any world record monster fish (can't expect such luck twice in a year!). It was simply an AWESOME exotic fishing trip! You may remember we were making the first ever float on a river in western Mongolia...
